GUIDE to EXOTIC Hermit Crab SPECIES!!

i give permission to whoever wants to use this compilation species guide for their sites or whatever... (just mention me somewhere ok?) but i'm changing little bits and pieces and refining it all the time (just look at how many times i edited it!)
so we should make it either a sticky or put it in the LHC forum "library" section.. so we can refer newbies over there instead of havin them post all the time and take up space on HCA and LHC servers... (i heard they're havin space issues)
also.. if ppl notice any new features on these species later on... i'll update it too... i have noticed some other things with cavipes' but i really can't explain it.. if u compare the back sides of cavipes' to any other specie u'll see the cavipes' have weird shaped backs.. almost like a peanut shell or something... i dunno.. i can't explain..

I know you know that!
True for certain species, they seem to be very consistent (brevimanus, perlatus, almost PP).
But for others, I'm willing to bet there are other colors we haven't seen yet, so I don't think saying they CAN only be that color is reliable. I saw a 'tan' rugosus at PETCO last night (should've picked him up - I'll go today), and the one I picked up yesterday is bluish green. I also have an E that has whitish legs with brown markings, like a cavipes also.

but i believe i have it nailed on what species "CAN" be what color... for example.. u don't see bright orange Indo's around... or dark red E's... or yellow cavipes'.. etc. etc...
ya know what i mean?

and as for puttin this on a website.. i've never been a webpage maker b4 and don't plan to be one either.. so anyone here can cut and paste it on their sites if they want.. (just remember to cite!)

Eyes of strawberries
Hey SuPerTOm,
Do your straws have eyestalks like rugosus? Or are they more like Es (narrower at the base)?
Thanks.

hermes mother: i just worked at the crab kiosk today.. and i noticed that we have A LOT of blue tinted rugosus'!...
the reason why i never noticed it was cuz i just assumed it was gray tinting without really lookin closely enough... it's sorta like bluish gray tinting... so yeh.. i guess they come with blue tinting also.. i also saw one with a little bit of yellow on his claw...

rugs seem to come in all kinds of color except the reddish hues.

red rugosus
I have several rugosus that vary from a bright red to a pale salmon coloring. I also have several that are multi colored (black/tan/rust) throughout the body.

Geez, you're picky, you must be an engineer!
I've seen green, like a bluish green. Orange is a just a faded red or a deep cream. And purple is just a darker lilac! So a rainbow is possible!

SuPerTOm wrote: actually.. they don't come in orange, green or purple... so a rainbow isn't a very good example... lol.. j/k
