yeah..I could do that! I have a pretty big one and the moss will keep it from getting burried hopefully!

Do you think they will find it ok if I move it up high? It would be funny to see them lokking for it.

I put the extra shells on the levels to keep them cleaner longer so why not the food, smart thinking...unless of course they knock the dishes off and they break cause it is glass...that would be bad.

I could buy an extra level just for the food and only fill the moss up half way so the food can't be pushed off the edge! It would give the crabbies estra space on the floor for digging/molting too!

lol I actually stole that idea from IUCandi, and in my new tank will be putting my food up on the crabs' old shell shelf. I found some awesome flat corner shower shelver that only have about 1/2" lip on them so that's what I'll use for food the lip will hopefully keep them from knocking the dish off.

In the wild hermit crabs don't have food bowls so eating off the substrate would be ok. If the food gets completely buried your help might have to put some in but how hard is that?

yeah not hard...except I was trying to give the minimum that needs to be done cause I have some many things for her to do..and I worry about the tap water being left inside and hurting my crabbies! But If I try to explain and just show her where the food is..she can just maybe fill a new bowl with out having to clean the used ones..that would work too.

Thanks all for the help.

thanks so much for the offer Lauren =) i couldn't have you do that with broken ribs! You are so sweet! I am sure they will be fine. I am going to put this poor woman (who has no idea what she is getting into) through some training first  before I leave her with my babies!

possibly a test :D
