I've seen green, like a bluish green. Orange is a just a faded red or a deep cream. And purple is just a darker lilac! So a rainbow is possible!
i thought about an engineering major cuz i like making/improving things.. but i don't like math.. so i just settled for a marketing major.. i'm surrounded by engineers though, my bro-in-law=a bio engineer, and 4 of my friends who r computer engineers, electrical engineers and i forgot the rest...

a green rug eh? probably just tinting right?... i want a bright solid green crab so i can name it Piccolo from dbz.. :D

:lol: Right Tom, the ones I have seen are a greenish tint, but it is a very strong tint. Ta-Kun is a green-tint rugosus, and when I first got him I just thought it was because he was sick (poor guy had mites all over him) but now I've seen other green rugo's so it probably isn't that...

Maybe it's something in their diets?

Something else that may help...

Small stitch-like marks on front/top of big pincer?
      I
      I-> YES -> Eyestalks flared out (corn kernel or diamond shaped)?
      I                   I
      I                   I-> YES - C. compressus (Es)
      I                   I
      I                   I-> NO -> Reddish body with white setae (white dot-like bumps)?
      I                                      I
      I                                      I-> YES - C. perlatus (Strawberries)
      I                                      I
      I                                      I-> NO - C. rugosus
      I
      I
      I-> NO -> Elongated eyes?
                         I
                         I-> YES - C. cavipes
                         I
                         I-> NO - Cylindrical eyes?
                                          I

                                          I
                                          I-> NO - C. clypeatus (Purple Pincers)

To confirm, check for these characteristics

C. compressus (Es) - Fine pincer stitch-marks (shorter), big pincer often brown/orange.
C. perlatus (Straws) - Red (some are whitish) with white setae, flat pincer.
C. rugosus - Prominent pincer stitch-marks (longer), black/white 'stripe' on big pincer, Orange inner antenna segment (some).

C. brevimanus - Cylindrical eyes, dark eyestalks (most), brown roundish body, oversized lilac big pincers.
C. clypeatus - Comma shaped (elongated round) eyestalks, reddish with purple (most) or red (some) pincers.

Hey Tom, I have seen a deep blue rugosus at Petco for sure. He was out of his shell and they didn't let me buy him nor did they help him :cry: :cry: :cry: . But he was completely blue without any markings, just like Kofi, only blue :) .

The one I saw was no shade of blue. He/she was more blue than Triton. If I go back there I will take my camera with.

I just got a "white" rugosos today. was wondering what it was and it looks just like the white "Eloise" on misspoppypuffs site! None of the other species come in white right?
SuperTom, this is very helpful :D

Yep, Boo looks just like Moon. They are really cool. Now, are white ones rare? And, do they change when they molt? They are really spooky looking. I had to have her.

I don't think they are rare because almost all of the rugs I saw at Petco were white or off-white.
