Definitely hard to base ruggies on color. I've had ruggies that started out as (predominantly):
Green
Blue
Pink
Yellow
White
Red
Purple
Brown
Black
And after 1 or 2 molts, they came up completely different colors. Most seem to converge towards a greyish, greyish yellow/blue/pink kind of color. Which makes me suspect diet has a lot to do with it.
Kind of like how all my green/blue/grey E's quick turn dark brown after a few molts, and most of my pale PPs end up a deeper red.
It can also be molt duration too. Sometimes my PPs who get disturbed early and don't stay under as long during their molts stay much paler until the next time.
But there were a few of the ruggies, usually teh darker brown/black tinted ones (often with green/red influences) that seemed just a bit more "stocky" than the regular ones. They might have been true Cavipes, but I don't know them anymore to tell, know that we know what cavs really look like (they fell victim to one of my mistakes down the line). But maybe they are similar to what you have. Could be a slight variation of some kind.
