Hermit crabs are such a good way to learn to be patient, aren't they?

You've done a really good job so far.

I dug her up on.. um... lost track of time, but it was over the weekend.

Anyway, I was worried about her since if she had wanted to come to the surface she wouldn't have been able to, so I removed the dish I had placed over her and she had managed to do a bit of digging herself, but not much. I pulled her out and put her into a shallow salt-water dish and a fresh-water dish (she did drink, so I'm glad I got her out), and put her in front of some food (two bites and then she went to try and dig in the corner.)

But..... Gel limbs!

:wootjump:

As soon as she started digging in the corner I put her back into the ISO and covered her up again. I'm debating on checking in on her next weekend or just waiting until she's come back up on her own. I'm so worried she's going to get stuck somewhere she doesn't want to be!

Wow! How exciting! Look at the little gel claw, shouldn't be long now until she molts for you
Good job!

I've never actually had a crab with gel limbs before, so it kinda really creeped me out. For a few minutes I thought she was regrowing her legs without the molting part. (Had to google photos before I realized that they were classic gel limbs!)

Wow, you're amazing. I never knew about these gel limbs. Is that how it regrows without a molt?

Gel limbs are a part of regrowing the limb. To be able to fully regrow, they need to molt .

Guess who molted!

:D

And she has all her legs and her big claw back!
:wootjump:

I didn't take photos as I didn't have my camera with me and she's still very pale, so I didn't want to keep her topside too long. I will have to dig her up in a few days and put her with some food though - if she had any exo from molting it's already gone and she's going to need more calcium to heal properly.

Not out of the woods yet, but still:
