Re: Attacked while molting-Fasty is up! Pics included!!
Look at those cute little WHOLE legs and claws. He looks great! Keep up on the protein and calcium. Sparky ate like crazy for a month, then went down to molt again, which was really soon for his size (he was a large before the damage). So I'd expect Fasty to do something similar to try to keep repairing those smaller limbs.

I can't wait to get him back into the main tank. I've upgraded to a 65 since he's been gone. I want to leave him in iso for at least one more molt, maybe two, depending on how his limbs continue to grow. He's eating a lot again. I'm sure he will continue to bulk up to prepare for the next molt. He's doing a great job getting around, and is doing a little climbing too. I'm just thrilled we've come so far. My little boy wants to take him in for show and tell to talk about how hermit crabs can molt and grow back legs. I told him he has to wait til Fasty gets a little bit stronger!

Maybe take in before and after pictures of Fasty for show and tell and a different hermit crab, presumably with you there as well. Explain that Fasty is still working to get back to normal and can't visit.Careyenz wrote:My little boy wants to take him in for show and tell to talk about how hermit crabs can molt and grow back legs. Fasty came up today from his second molt following his mauling early in July. He's come full circle. He used to be my largest E, and now he is my smallest. I'm just thrilled that he's back to his old (almost) self. His regrown limbs are still smaller than the original two, and his pinchers are smaller, but they doubled in size from this molt. Here are some pics to tell the story:
Fasty before he was attacked
Fasty after molting attack, July
Fasty after first molt, August 27
Fasty today:
I love how furry he looks in the pics. I'm so happy to see him back on the surface!!

Awww, he is so cute! Congrats on him coming up from his molt!
I am a proud owner of five hermies named Leopard (PP), Ribbon (PP), Kremer (PP), Queenie (PP), and Sunny (E). I have been crabbing since 6/16/11, and have been loving and learning so much about them ever since! My family and I also own a husky, a cat, and a bunch of freshwater fish.

He looks great! Congrats on the success in getting him back to this point. I know all too well the work and commitment involved in doing so.

Yayyyy Fasty!! He's lucky to have such a great mom! I'm so glad he's doing we'll. I have a couple of E's that have gone down and haven't been back up. I think they are molting and I hope everything goes well. This will be my first molt since I started crabbing in mid October.
Re: Attacked while molting-update 2/9 Molt #3
Fasty dug under yesterday for what I am hoping is his last healing molt. I can't wait to see what he looks like when he comes up. Hopefully this will finally put all his troubles behind us!

Yay! Fasty is up again! He came up two days ago. His pinchers are still a little bit small in comparison to a normal crab, and the two legs he lost are still smaller. He looks great though! I'd have to say, he looks healed to me! It's amazing how small he got through the process, though. Proof you can't judge a crab's age by size. He was a bigger medium before he became dinner, and now without measuring him, he's not quite a medium. I'll post some pics this weekend, but I was too excited to not share!
