Ugh stop me before its too late.... I just checked the website for PetCo and they have a sale on their Exo Terra terrariums and I'm eyeballing that Large Extra Tall... It's 101 gallons and the sale knocks off a little over $100 dollars...

We have a confirmation. My mom is okay with me building a stand for the 50 gallon, she said she'd love to see me build something. I believe I'm going to buy the 50 gallon, a 6" by 35" ultratherm, and a glass lid, and then start building the stand and keep the aquarium somewhere safe. I can use the light fixture from my 20 gallon L and sell the aquarium and stand. I plan on basing the new stand off of the one that I have for the 20 L. In this new aquarium I'll be housing 6 purple pinchers (3 medium, 3 small) and one E, as well as isopods. I plan on having 10-11" of substrate, and am looking into deeper pools and a larger moss pit. Down the line I may get another thermo hygrometer to put on both sides of the 'tat. I'll be starting the work on this soon, regardless of whether I have isopods right off the bat or not.

Congrats, you seem to have it all figured out. Wish I had your skills as I keep failing

That's awesome! You may want to add a bit of extra reinforcement when you're making the new stand - a 50 gal full of sand will be heckin' heavy! You don't want an accident.

Yeah, I'm getting help from my mom's boyfriend. I think we'll be able to make it as strong as we need. He's estimating it will need to be able hold about 140 lbs.

So it turns out I can't go as big as I'd like to, but I can still upgrade to a 37 gallon. That works for me.

We might be picking up the 37 gallon tomorrow. If I'm reading the PetSmart website correctly I get $20 off of anything above $100. That would mean I can fully pay for the aquarium with Christmas money. I'm going to sell the fish stuff that comes with the aquarium to try to gain a little bit of money back. This would mean I can order a new Ultratherm and a Versatop with whatevers left and my own money. I'm taking the light fixture from this aquarium hood and opting for a Versatop instead as I'm having no luck with the attempts of riding the 'tat of gnats despite using the methods offered on here, they just aren't interested in the mixture. I've caught one total gnat out of the 3 times I've tried. I also plan on working on my other little projects such as isopods and my water dishes too, but I feel pressure to upgrade ASAP since I have 3 more crabs coming soon.

Question to those who have used Versatops: can the plastic piece be drilled into? I'm trying to make it as hard as possible for gnats to get back in (they annoy me, and I mistake the ones that run around on the substrate for mites sometimes and panic) so I think drilling two holes specifically for my aquarium tube lining. The temp/hygro probe's wire is small so I'm pretty sure I can just run it under the lid.
