Lego Buildings

Hey Guys,

I saw yesterday on google images people using lego to build huts, platforms and staircases in their crabitat and thought that it was a really good idea. As you all know, my tank doesn't really have much in it, it looks pretty empty, my idea was building a large lego platform/hut. I was going to build a large lego hut that a staircase going to the roof as a playform, they'll have heaps of room in it and because I've got literally tubs of lego, it's completely free. I think it's a good temporary solution to the emptiness of my tank, but as I start getting more money I'm going to buy proper hermit crab stuff unless they really like the lego. Of course I'll have to boil it and let is dry out in the sun to get any chemicals and smells off of it first, but I was just wondering what your thoughts are on it.

Thanks,
Hamilation

Super idea! With Legos, you could easily change the structure around every so often to keep the crabs entertained. And, yes, pictures please so we can all snag your ideas  !

I have "tonnes" of lego and never really thought of using it for my crabs, i will be looking forward in seeing how yours respond.

The only downside is that the crabs can easily pull them apart. We've had members do it in the past, but the crabs would keep redecorating!

What? Looked like I needed hermies when I couldn't pull the tough legos apart! :) Amazing how strong and capable they are.

The lego building that I've made is pretty much impossible to pull apart, even I have difficulty doing it when I want to change something :P I'm a sub-genius with proficiency in logic, trust me, this thing won't come apart. The only problem that I'm encountering is how do I clean the lego? When you clean anything else that the crabs play with (shells, plants, bowels and other buildings) you just boil them and that gets off any bacteria and stuff. But you can't boil lego, it's plastic, it will melt. Any ideas on how to clean the lego? And don't tell me to boil the lego, I don't want to take any risks...

I would just wash them in hot water, scrub dirty spots as needed, and let them air dry.
