Cleaning substrate after crab death

I have a good bit of substrate that I'd used in the isolation tank where we briefly kept our most recent adoptee. He moved into the main tank with our other two crabs, but died within a month. He'd never quite acted right, and I suspect that he'd been mistreated/neglected by his previous owners and was pretty stressed. The other two crabs did not get sick. Now it has been about two months since he died, and I'm wondering if I can use the substrate from the iso tank in my main tank, and if I should bake it or otherwise clean it first. It was new when I put it in the iso tank and was really only used for about two weeks, so it is pretty clean and smells fine. Should I use it or toss it? It is play sand and coco fiber, by the way.

Well, no replies (dumb question?) and I've baked the substrate, so I'm going to proceed. Thanks for reading!

Sorry, I didn't see this post or I would have answered you. You did the right thing. I am not sure why I didn't see this post. It must have gotten buried in my tapatalk app.

Yes, baking or replacing the substrate is the way to go when you have unexplained deaths. I'm so sorry for your loss. :hug99::
