Bathe or not to bathe

I just got back from vacation and have 3 wonderful little creatures! I will be bathing two of my hermit crabs because they seem to be very healthy and active. My one hermit crab is very lethargic. I think he is suffering from PPS. I'm not sure if I should bathe him because that will make him more shocked than he already is.

Personally I only bathe them after a molt so other crabs dont try to eat em because of the scent.

Hi and welcome to HCA!
Check out our care guides and feel free to ask us anything about crabbery!
You should never bathe your crabs UNLESS you see them being bothered after coming up from molting, they have the bad kind of mites stuck to them, or if you notice a serious fight in progress. Some will separate the aggressors and give them a quick dip in the fw pool to calm them down. If you introduce new crabs to a tank with others it may be a good idea to bathe them so they don't get attacked. Regular bathing is definitely a No No.
All hermit crabs need dishes of dechlorinated fresh and saltwater that they can submerge in. Plastic plants or shells that allow them to climb out will prevent drowning or you can make ladders out of plastic craft mesh.

Thank you. These are new crabs coming into an already inhabited tank so I think I should bathe them. Still not sure about the lethargic crab!
