i hate petsmart!

I have bought 4 hermit crabs from Petsmart. 2 of them have died! 1 was missing 2 legs. The other one is doing fine. This is the last time Im going to get hermits from them.

Hermit crabs get stressed out when moving from one place to another. It might not have been their fault. Going from bad conditions to fairly well conditions is one heck of a ride! Your crabs either died from PPS or illness. The crab missing two legs was stressed out.

So sorry for your losses.

Unfortunately, this is an issue with all purchased hermit crabs - from any store. They go through so much between being collected from the wild to when they're purchased and brought home. Can I ask when you purchased these guys? Crabs shipped during colder months do not do well at all.

I'm so sorry! I know exactly how you feel! Last December I bought two new hermit crabs from Petsmart, and I had a similar experience. I named one of them, and I was still trying to decide on the name for the other one. That unnamed crab passes away about 3 days after the purchase. I felt so terrible about it! He didn't even eat or drink because he was so stressed out. Then his buddy seemed to be depressed once his friend died. I had to ISO him and try to hand feed him. I put him in a comfy moss pit, and covered the tank to encourage a molt. He sadly passed away about a week after the purchase. Even though you give these new crabs perfect conditions, they just can't handle the stress of what they have had to go through. I could have got my money back, but I can't just ask for my money back because of a life that didn't make it, it just felt wrong.

Again, I'm sorry that happened to you to, but I suggest strictly adopting crabs from previous owners. I got my other two crabs from Craigslist, and they are doing great! They both molted, and got along with my other crabs! Just try to avoid buying from stores, most of the time, they don't make it.

IM VERY SORRY!!!! To be a great place to buy them is Petco because Mr.Crabs (my hermit crab) was bought from there. He is STILL with me for 9 months in counting. So it might be best to bbuy from Petco

It really depends on which Petco, some locations are better than others.

I get my crabs from Jacks Pets in Harrison, they seem to have good conditions. Heck! Even my fair crab is healthy! I'm sad about yours though

My pet smart is OK. I've gotten all my crabs from there and they have survived. I guess it just really depends on the location.
