A lot of those are misspellings of the same species, or are the same species but named and described by different naturalists. Most species lists (of any kind) came from scientists who first 'discovered' them in the 1700's and 1800's, and are loaded with duplicates and inaccuracies. Back then there was a race to identify and name as much as possible, and it required very little proof. In recent years researchers have stared going through and correcting these mistakes. This is one of the more updated registries, and also identifies past issues, which I think is neat.
