One of my crabs is named Hermie, I keep trying to get my daughter to rename him, but she is dead set on the name. He's our second "Hermie", we had a tiny crab named Hermie never come up from a first molt.

How many other members here have a crab with this name?? :hlol: :hlol: :hlol:

I don't. Seriously. Not really sure how that happened. :hlol:

Going by the amount of crabs coming through adoptions named that... I'd say a good 90% of owners. Maybe more!

I call them my hermies or crabbies, but my first was almost named hermie by my mom lol. I rejected it bc I figured a lot of crabs are named that...and this thread proves it lol. I have two so far in a 25 gallon tank. Buggie and Violet.

I've had my two hermit crabs for at least six years and I never thought to name them, nor I have ever taken the time to sex them.

I usually just refer to them as my hermit crabs or the tanks occupants.

:anon:

I've never sexed mine, or even thought to. A few weeks ago I randomly got hermie in a really good spot and confirmed he's male. And I adopted hermie with another crab we called Bing Bong, and truthfully I can't really tell them apart, they could have switched shells and I could have mixed them up many times. They look so much alike they're kind of interchangeable, maybe when bing bong comes up from his molt I can find a way to distinguish them  maybe he's a girl!

I have one, Hermes, like the French man who made scarves...but my daughter calls her Hermie haha. She's only 2 and actually I think she can tell them apart and she knows all their names (which impresses me because 2 of our little guys are in very similar shells haha). We also have a Crabby, Alcatraz, and Bessie (who my daughter calls Blue for some reason, she like interchanges the two names haha).

My 5 year old brother named my first two Sandy and Shelly and I figured they'd be common names, but I haven't seen anyone else mention those. Image He got a little more creative with the others he named, lol. George Crabbington (we ended up calling him General Crabbington though) and Max, Jr. and Steve. Well Max Jr. may not be totally creative as he named it after himself, but I think it's a neat name for a crab anyway lol. And Steve was kinda fun because most of them have a more entertaining name-- and then there's just Steve haha.
Sandy, Shelly, Franklin, Max, Jr. General Crabbington, Ol' Lady Crabbington, GusGus, DigDug.... and *Steve* lol.

I haven't. My first three crabs were Adnama, Yllek, and Kered. Back in elementary school I thought that naming them after myself and a couple friends, just backwards, was the most clever and super-secret naming convention ever. Let's just say that was a long time ago...

When I went to pick up our current two I suggested Thing 1 and Thing 2 to my daughter and now she won't let me change it, though upon seeing them I would have picked Popeye and Wimpy because of their size difference. Normally they just get called Big Guy and Little Guy...
