Strawberry shoots in crabitat

I recently saw a little shoot coming out of the top of my cholla!
I was mystified for a while as to how a cactus I had boiled had somehow sprouted, but then noticed the sand and seeds that one of my PPs had dragged up there!
Unfortunately it has died now but has made me interested in growing some other plants in there!

Many people in the terrarium and vivarium hobby use LED lights for growing plants. They seem to work pretty well too!

I just threw a few chia seeds in my crabitat and they r growing beautifully. I water them lightly daily and so far so good!

I usually start chia seeds in a mayo or peanut butter lid with some Eco Earth on a window sill. That helps them start growing before the crabs maul them and avoids adding more water to your tank.

Oooo, Motor, I like that idea! I tried to grow some in the tank but Sonny just plowed them over or ripped them out before they got to be much more than a tiny thread. I'm going to try to start them first, then put then in the tank. Thanks!

Curly, I found stuff doesn't really sprout in my tank since the substrate is mixed with saltwater. I haven't done it for a while but I think it took 5-7 for the seeds to sprout. Once they do they really take off. I really need to give it a try again.
