Sand in pipes

Any tips for keeping sand out for the sink drain? I can't always go outside to wash the food and water dishes with the hose. I was wondering if anyone came up with a filtering hack or something for washing them in the sink.

I just fill up a jug of water and rinse them into the toilet. I figure it’s better than the sink.

Drains aren't meant to handle heavy solids like sand and gravel, and if you have a septic system for sure do not because the only way it is coming out is with pumping! I know we all do it, but it is a risk. I've had to have gravel pulled out of the main drain in my house before.... Or that time I backed the sink up completely with EE...

I try to wipe up as much as I can with a wet paper towel and throw that out.
