Ideas for 55G tank

Post by Misombra » Fri Jul 15, 2022 2:03 pm

Hello,

I am upgrading to a 55G tank and I’m super excited, I had a 10G for a while and I’m ready for my crabbies and the new ones coming to enjoy more space.

Can I see some pictures or ideas of what you have done with a 55G tank? I want them to be able to explore, climb and have things without taking over all the walking space.

Thanks!

Sure!
I just set my 55g up in March and my crabs are loving it! Here's a link to the pictures:

This tank took around 8 months to setup. I got the idea for it last July during CrabCon '21. I spent the 8 months gradually collecting resources and materials- it didn't break the bank, and also gave me time to think and plan out the build.
Some key features of mine:
*Custom build from ProfPinchysPuzzles on Etsy (it stretches from one corner of the tank to the other.) Have a tension rod from CoenobitaCuriosities extending to the corner, and to another coconut hide (from profpinchys also.)
* Deep water pools (double stacked) with bubblers and fake plants around/in them. This makes it look cool in my opinion! I might be adding some duckweed soon too :)
* Barnacle and lava rock chunks- my crabs especially love the barnacle! I've seen them perched on it and eat it too. Sadly, not sure if you'll be able to find it- I got it at a shell shop in SoCal during vacation. Maybe on Etsy? The lava rock was from a local pet/aquarium store!
* LOTS of fake plants. Crabs love a crowded tank to feel secure in. It might not leave a lot of walking room- but then add a wheel! (Which I also need to do...O-O)
* Boxwood panels. I got these on amazon for like $10-15. It brightens up the tank, and they like to *attempt* to climb it. I might need to get some more!

Feel free to ask any questions about my setup...and I'm sure others will share about theirs too. <3
