Old Crabitat New Use by KyMart

Post by KyMart » Wed Jun 14, 2023 11:53 pm

I have a 10 gallon aquarium with 30 lbs of aquarium sand in it atm, my crabs are going to be moved out of it soon, and the sand is staying. What new pet should I put in it? I wanted a turtle but they can't live in a 10 gallon, and I wanted a hedgehog but they are very expensive. I was thinking about getting two Beta Fish but they only live 2-5 years on average. I would love a snake but I am not aloud to get one. Any advice on what to put in the tank? I would love suggestions! I don't want it to just sit there and collect dust!
I have 5 PPs in a 40 gallon breeder!

Don't get 2 bettas; that's a recipe for disaster.
Maybe a bearded dragon?

You could also just keep it as an ISO for any sick/injured crabs.
3 PPs: Maxwell (small), Mitchelle (medium/small), Kendall (medium/large)
also have 10gal freshwater fishtank w/ neon tetras, pygmy cories, and nerite snails

My sister says I have to get fish. I am thinking about getting fish and maybe a snail or even a marine crab! I have expensive aquarium sand in there I want to use but don't want to mix with my new sand, so idk! 😂

You can't have 2 male bettas together, but you can group females together. At one point, in a larger tank, I had 9 females together and they all got along.

Ideally I would like to have either a tank of 4 fiddler crabs, or 2 fish and two snails if possible.

White tree frogs get too big for a 10g. Other frog species, like dwarf African frogs would do a lot better.

If headstrong on frogs, poison dart frogs could work (some of the smaller species, like Thumbnail dart frogs. Some of the smaller species of toads could also work as well.

I honestly like nano aquariums, particularly planted nano aquariums. There are loads of minuscule fish/invertebrates that make great occupants in a 10g tank, and you can really have fun with aquarium plants! Some examples include cherry shrimp (with all the colour morphs), caridina shrimp (so many colour morphs), Thai micro crabs, mosquito rasboras, pygmy cories, endlers livebearers, celestial pearl danios, rabbit snails ect. Some species, like Pea puffers require specialised care, to research thoroughly!

If you enjoy the paludarium side of things, consider vampire crabs. A breeding pair of trio could work nicely, and have a nice little scape with them.

Regardless of what you choose/consider, some animals require specialised care/food, so you need to ensure that you can properly house these critters. For example, fruit flies for frogs or snails for Pea puffers.
