Cigarette smoke

Post by DustAndEchoes » Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:07 pm

I know hermies are sensitive to chemichals like birds are, and I know that second hand smoke can make pet birds ill, so can it affect hermies too? My neighbor smokes out side and it blows into our room when the windows are open, so i've been keeping a tea towel over the lid just in case.

I would keep the towel over the tank. My dad and brother smoke and it hasnt seemed to bother my crabs that live at my parents. But I also have plastic wrap over their tank to keep everything out.

I would guess that thier gills would trap the carbon in the smoke, much like our lungs, and then it would take a very long time for the immune system to completely break down the carbon. So the more they are exposed the more it will build up.

For humans, it takes 15 years to break down the carbon built up in our lungs from, i think, a year of smoking.
