If the crab has died you may dispose of it in the manner you wish. Some members bury theirs others don't. It's a very personal decision and whatever you choose is okay.

:bighug: I'm sorry if you have lost a crabby. Hang in there, you'll do the right thing.

Sorry for your loss,
But it is up to you. If his is still in his shell and you still want the shell, Well you can take him out. Just be sure to boil the shell before you put it back in.
you can bury you crabbie shell and all.
It all depends on you and how you feel about your crabbie.
This is a call only you can make.
Good luck. :(

If you are talking about euthanasia, I think that right now at least, we don't know enough about crabs to be able to accurately predict 100% that a crab is going to die so we generally prefer to wait and see.
Yes i meant die, sorry. O was just curious as to what others did.

Mine get burried in my moms flower gardens, shell and all, even if they are in that pretty, expensive shell I just bought lol! I let em have it, even tho they are dead for some reason I just cant take it from them. :(

Oddly enough as my mom digs she never has hit a shell yet....theres around 50 out in the gardens.

*grabs tissue...eyes start to water* Makes me sad to talk about dead hermies. :(

....Ok better now.

I buried two of my three that died in the garden. The other one (I feel bad for this) I couldn't. It was pouring and had been for days with no signs of it letting up. I didn't want to freeze the dead crab and the yard was flooding, so I flushed him. I held him by the shell and kind of jiggled him out of it. I felt SO bad about it, but he was starting to smell really bad and I didn't know what else to do with him.

I never thought of flushing. I have put one in a baggie and placed it in the garbage can though.

Mine get wrapped, shell and all, in a paper towel and buried in the backyard.

I always bury them with their shell, usually in a small box if I have one but at least wrapped in a paper towl with some of their favourite food.

/hangs head and confesses to putting the last dead crab in the freezer....

Just waiting until I need to rescue a crab from a bad pet store then I can take the "Dead" one back a few days later and get my money back.

/peeks around... I didn't say that.

Squishy will hopefully save another crab. He would want it that way.

Sorry for your loss :( I recently lost my favorite crabby Leo, he died of post-molt problems. I'm going to bury him in the garden today. It's always so sad when you lose your hermit :(

I will bury them beneath a special perennial plant. If the season is too cold, I freeze them, sometimes shell and all depending on the crab, until the ground thaws.

I buried a couple beneath an apple tree, so now I call it my "crab apple." I like the fact that as the plants bloom, I have a living memorial to my special pets.

Well, one I took back to the store because I had only had him 4 days.

The other I just put in a ziplock and put him in the trash  . I'm not one for burying things.

dead crab

I gave Woosie a little funeral and buried him near my queen palm with a small cairn of river rocks so nothing can dig him up. I was going to take him back to the pet store to get my money back but they would have just thrown his little body into the trash and I couldn't allow that. There are some things that getting the money is just not worth. He was a good little crab and deserved a decent burial even though I just had him for 7 days.
Whatever you decide has to be right in your heart.

I have a little place at the edge of our property where there is a slope up where I bury them. I call it "Crab Hill" . :( If they fall out of their shell, I usually keep it. I just consider that recycling. One less shell off the beach.
