HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I am always curious to find out about the longevity of crabs in captivity. I remember reading about someone who owned one of her crabs for 25 years!

What is the longest period of time you have owned one of your crabs?

Well I still have by origanl craby. And he is 6 months old. So, I have been crabbing for 6 months, lol.

I have had my favorite crab Big 'un since i started crabbing, a year and a half ago.

I still have three of my originals from 7-2005. Hello Kitty, Nemo and Sabrina.

I've had Buster from the get go of crabbing. She's been with us 1 1/2 years now.

My crabs orange crush, spike, nutty and Zeus have been around for almost 2 years . They are my E's! I have went through 3 molts with them all. But nutty recently had a bad molt so I am not sure if he will make it! He dropped his BP for some reason. :roll:

I've had my oldest crab, Sandy, for a year starting tomorrow.

I think 2 years or more.

I have 2 PPs from my first batch of 4 PPs that I got in Oct. 2002 (4 years now!!!), and 1 E from my first batch of Es that I got in March 2003.

I have had 3 pp's from Oct. 2001. So about 5 and half years

I'm goin' on 5 months with Violet and Sunny as my eldest Babies. And I'm pretty sure the only reason they've made it this for is because of the HCA- [smilie=grouphug.gif] !

I've had Miss Solitaire, a PP, since fall of 2004. She was dime-sized when I got her & is about medium-sized now. I've had Lucifer (also a PP) for about 2 years too. My next longest is my ruggie Babydoll, who I've had for at least 18 months.

My 3 "oldest" crabs are all female, I'm curious, does anybody else notice a similar trend with their older crabs?

I've had Cookie for 11 months (1 year on Jan. 27) and Petra for 9 months.

Megs, my oldest crab is male, but 11 months isn't all that long either. Although the pet store guy sure was surprised when I told him I'd had my crab for over 10 months. haha

Out of my original 6 that suffered through my horrible starting trial and error type deals, I still have 2 - Dirty(M) and Flash(F). I got them back in September of '05, so bout a year and a half now. Some of the others I've had for a long while like my teeny ruggies Spider and Pinchie, my teeny Es Sebastian and Shadow, and my small PP adoptee Pandora. Pandora's brother didn't make it unfortunately, he died during his first molt with me, but Pandora is thriving. The one's mentioned just now have been with me anywhere from 6 months to a year.
