HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I wanna to find a E in petco but.... I dunno what are they look like. I found a Ruggie then people in HCA help me ID them so how I know what a ruggie looks like. Can someone show me a E picture? so next time I hunt crabbie I would know what kind to get XD... (probably going out to buy crabs within 1 hr)

basically E's look like rugs, but E's dont' have stiche marks on their bp, they don't usually have smudges on their eye stalks, and they don't have the thicker back walking leg that rugs have.

Your second crab photo Miyakko, looks alot like an Aussie crab/variabilis

Also, try the species ID page in the menu to the right. That might give some more variety. There is a post farther down in this forum that talks about black Es, and there's a picture of Kathy's lovely black E.

It sure does, but I've getting lots of things wrong lately, so your crab prolly is an E. This is very confusing
Do all of your other E's have tiny black specks on the underside/paler side of their legs?
But the back walking leg looks to be not long like Aussie crabs legs are, I just don't know....
Wish there was someone that knew for sure.

The eyes and BP's are usually the easiests way to tell the difference.


E eyes (notice that they are candycorn shaped):





Ruggie Eyes - Do not narrow at the base of the stalk like an E's do. They almost always have dark smudges on the underneath of the eye stalk:

yes, a lot of Es are brownish in color, especially the bigger ones like Mushie, he was a medium:



but the little ones can be mint green and blue, or a combo of those colors and brown

the Incredibly Deadly Viper (teenie) is a pretty combo of green and blue, with a brown BP as well as the last segment of most legs:
