Bloated Whites Tree Frog
Can anyone tell me why my girlfriend's White's Tree Frog is getting bloated like this? I only feed them one big meal per week because their number one problem as a species and number one health problem is over eating and obesity which, like a human being, can limit the life expectancy of your frog. I gauge their feedings based on the fatty ridge above the eye. An over development of this ridge points to obesity in the frog. It's best to keep them at a weight where this ridge is visible but not over developed.
Back to my problem.... he's been getting like this over the past week or two and I have a good idea of the cause, but I don't want to influence anyones answer. So please, if you know anything about WTFs, please let me know what you think.

I'll tell you right now that I know -nothing- about frogs so I don't know if this will work or not but maybe try spliting the 1 big meal in half and doing 2 feedings a week and see if that helps? Or cut back on what you feed in the one meal? Dunno whats wrong but hope whatever it is you can get it fixed!
I have to fast my Bettas every other day or they'll become bloated. O.x
*Edit* Did some research and found out they can get Dropsy just like fish. O.o; Weird. Anyways, it'll cause bloating and is caused by bacteria and/or (And more likely from what I've read) a metabolism disorder. *wonders if this is what her African Dwarf Frog died from* He was really fat before he died. :/ We figured he was just eating all of what we dropped in for the fish because he was food aggressive and would push away fish who tried to come near it. O.o

It's definitely not feeding related. The ridge over their eyes are the way in which you gauge their obesity and I'm keeping them a little thin to ensure their health and longevity. Obesity will kill these guys pretty quickly and they are extremely prone to over eating and obesity.
What it looks like to me is possibly an intestinal blockage which is causing the bloat. The only thing that has me doubting this is that I have no idea what he might have ingested that would have caused the blockage. I keep them with soil which should pass easily through their system if ingested. In the meantime, I'm still stumped and a little worried.

What are you feeding him? I don't really know much about WTFs specifically, but are you feeding him harder to digest stuff like mealworms or waxworms? Seems to me a big meal of something like mealworms could cause a blockage.

Is it just the picture or is the underside of the frog red? It's been a while since I have kept WTH's but I remember that the red underside is a sign of a disease/illness called Red Leg (even thought it's not always only on the legs). That would cause the redness and the bloating. Tetracycline is the cure but I don't remember the treatment dosage or schedule. Your other frogs can catch this so if this is what your frog has you need to set up an ISO for the affected frog(s) to prevent your others from getting it. Good luck.

I'm going to up his feeding a little bit and soak him in warm water. I'm pretty sure its a bowel obstruction and this will hopefully help him pass whatever is blocking him. I've only had him for a few months and he's still small compared to his tank mate who has already grown quite a bit. He's still very active and seems healthy so I don't think this is too serious; I'm pretty sure he'll get better.
On another note.....
Sorry to the people who thought i was using WTH as an acronym for cursing. I was using it as the acronym for White's Tree Frog.
