And I have discovered a new subspecies of C.violascens ( Sunset/Komurasaki Land Hermit Crab ); I name them "Zebra Sunset Land Hermit Crabs" - the colorations varied between grey, dark brown, or black with white bands on the leg joints.

This makes me wonder if the "Calico" Eccies are a subspecies ( or conversely the others are ) or if it's a matter of early development diet.

The E's I have that are/were light tan, grey, blue, black, or shades between ( but always solid and single colored ) eat the same dish as the Calico and Rust Eccies I get and there's never been any crossover in the coloring. The first group stays in the same color ranges and the second group stays in the same colour ranges.
