Its ecoearth, my humidity us at 85 (plastic lid for the win!) and yes, its new, it better not have dried out already.... It didn't do this last time, or I dont think it did. I misted this morning like I always do, but noticed before I misted.

Did it change colors after you misted it? Honesty it sounds like it's dried out. Sorry to say that. I can show you how mine looks if you want.pandaincognito wrote:Its ecoearth, my humidity us at 85 (plastic lid for the win!) and yes, its new, it better not have dried out already.... Okay, sorry, my phone had died. I checked the sub with my hands, and it feels moist to the touch, stuck my finger in it and the tunnel holds shape. Im not sure what it is. Everyone's acting normal, so im not too worried about it

No worries. That's good that everyone is acting normal and things look and feel good. I would just keep an eye on it. Who knows maybe this new bag has a different color to it than what you are used to. Things do change at times for no reason. As long as things are good I wouldn't worry to much about it. You know what you are doing and it sounds like you've got things under control.pandaincognito wrote:Okay, sorry, my phone had died. Re: Crabbers beware!
Wouldn't the brown color be from the tannin in the wood? I know when I soak cholla or mopani or coconut huts the water turns brown. It is natural.
Re: Crabbers beware!
I noticed two small white pieces of plastic in my tat after I put the ecoeath in. I though(being a new crabber)that I had messed yet another thing up some how. It is terrible that it has this problem. But I am grateful that you said something. I at least know that wasn't a new crabber fail. And I will check in the future!pandaincognito wrote:Last night I set two bricks of ecoeaeth brand cocofiber to soak, and this morning, while adding another brick I found four or five pieces of plastic shreds. I don't know if it would cause any harm to the crabs or not, I do know that plastic still deteriorates, just a lot more slowly than more biodegradable type things (paper, food stuff, etc) this happened once before when I upgraded to the 29L, id only found one, but it was still there. It is easy to correct, just dig through the dirt and pay attention, but still an aggravation. Just thought you guys would like this precaution ^^

Re: Crabbers beware!
Probably, this was my thought as well. When you soak a brick of eco earth the water also turns brown. The sand is also going to be darker because it's wet and you have the color of the eco earth plus the tannin stained water altering the color of the sand. Not all playsand is the exact same color either. Just variations but nothing to be worried about.IBlab crab wrote:Wouldn't the brown color be from the tannin in the wood? The only time you worry about your sand color is if it is grey, black, and smells like a rotten egg.

Re: Crabbers beware!
I didn't even think of tannin, since it is wood. I haven't been concerned since I posted that, since were all still alive, active. and doing our typical crab thing
