Well, he is suddenly a shopper because now he looks like this: Image

Oh, I love him. He bosses the PP's in the tank but I will see him going up and checking on his little E buddies. Image[HEAVY BLACK HEART]️

Gandalf changed shells. Image

He's so stubborn and has shown so little interest in the shells (at least that I've seen) it caught me off guard! My niece has two E's and at least one of hers wears turbos! I was starting to think he'd be in that shell for the foreseeable future and maybe until it just fell off his bottom. Image. Anyway, he looks fabulous.

Also, check out last nights dinner before it went in the tank: Image

And again this afternoon:

They scattered around the fruit pieces but other than that they were little shelled piggies. Image

Oh, the life I've chosen. Crazy buggers!

It's fine! First dish is a variety of foods from a store on Etsy called deliciously crabby and some dried fruit and stuff from hermitcrabpatch.com. Those are two places to start. I have also heard good things about Hermie's Kitchen but I haven't ordered from there yet.

Do you you know what kind of wood the half log hide is made out of? I've seen similar ones made out of pine but didn't want to add the pine to my tank.

awesome 'tat though

After a panicked scramble one night when someone asked about it, I found out it is made of Douglas fir and other crabbers have affirmed it is safe.

Ok thanks...bc the green one looks suspicious lol when peering at a bright screen when you should be asleep. I'll check out hermitcrabpatch soon. I've heard good things about them in other threads too. Also, Gandolf is a handsome crab. Image

Love the names of the crabs! Crabtopia is altogether incredible! Was the food bowl arrangement your idea, or did you buy it like that? Also, what is that climbing wall made of? It looks really nice :D
2 small PPs: Leonardo, Biscuit
3 medium to large PPs: Kermit Rocketson, Lulu, Strawberry (named because he is red, not actually a straw)
1 Neon Tetra: Stevie. 1 Crawfish: Larry
R.I.P. Larry, Crabby, and Hermie (all PPs) O'mally (Neon Tetra) John Cena(Crawfish)

Hello!!!

I've been gone for a while! I had a lot going on with my fish and had quite the adventure with hatching mystery snails. I am now overrun in mystery snails if anyone was curious. Image

Anyway, the kids are doing amazing! By kids I mean crabs. Crabtopia has been a lively and trouble free zone for quite some time now. With one big tank to manage and warm weather and high humidity (yay southern weather!) it's been pretty easy to maintain. I'm worried about Gandalf. He's disappeared for over a month now but fingers crossed he's just molting again. One of the four new E's passed away shortly after I got him. I have since seen two which I believe have molted more then once now. My favorite little E remains missing. Not sure whether or not he is with me still.

Here are some pictures of the kids! All hairy and beautiful. I think they are choosing some awesome shells lately! ImageImage

It's so satisfying when they opt for something other than green turbos. It finally justifies what we've spent on acquiring shells for them  !
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale
Also Mom to Imogene the Syrian Hamster

Love! That last shell (and the leggy little guy in it) is spectacular!

Love all the pics!!! And your set up is amazing

And I love the telling of your adventure!! It sounds like something I am doing with some of my patients wanting to bring some home from the beach vacays for their grandkids!! I always end up showing pictures of mine & my set up. They always change their minds!

Where do ya'll end up getting E's? I've ended up with my little PP's from local Petsmart, but am curious about the E's. Are they much different in surroundings than PP's?

One of these days I'll have room to expand to a larger than a 10gal & add maybe 2 more to my colony through adoption.

Thanks guys!

Giner13, I got my big E guy from my niece. She brought him back from a trip in TN for me from a pet store. We live in KY and she knew I wanted E's (She's a crabber too and got her E's from there on her honeymoon, haha). My other little guys were a lucky find at a pet store super close to my sister's house that I found when I was visiting her. They had no idea they had more than one species and before I had only saw PP's there. I was so excited I thought I might faint! I bought all they had which was four.

It's so rare to see exotics in KY. At least from my experience. I am so jealous of people who live close to lots of pet stores!
