Well not sure how I would not put the one piece in direct substrate. It's got a big footprint.

Not sure about that. Maybe take some seashells and put them around some corners of the structure or something? Sorry, but I struggle with being creative! :D

I don't bother with putting anything under the wood. Mold happens and it isn't harmful to the crabs.

I just soak mine in the salt water and allow to air dry before putting it in the tank.

Just an update! The hermit crab that was in bad shape and went down months ago has re-emerged and is a nice bright blue/red and has all his limbs now! So it seems he successfully molted and is doing well!

I'll have to try and grab one later, was putting kids to bed when we found out and the crabitat is in my daughters room.

Here we go, the tips on his legs are like super sharp and clingy! was surprised lol. He's the smallest one we have, and when he went down he was down to like 1 leg and I think he had his small claw. Man he looks good now!

Also should mention for the first time ever a couple weeks ago I heard chirps and clicks out of our crabbies. My wife was like "what the heck was that" and I had to explain to her those are the sounds they make. So they must be happy in their home.

I thought I read on here that they make noises when they are unhappy...I heard penny(formerly known as Yeti) chirp when Gary was pushing her in the corner. Then I heard her chirping yesterday after Gary was moved out

hmm idk, he was making the noise when we picked him up so I'm sure he wasn't super happy.
