Question about E's and substrate

Post by isadoraisacat » Tue Aug 30, 2016 4:27 pm

I don't have E's but i was curious i read they need deeper sub. My question is the uth needs to be just above the sub but if it fills. More than the tank how would one find a uth skinny enough to work with out drying the sub ?

Some people have found that letting the UTH hang over just a little bit is fine, I remember someone saying that their crabs really liked digging around in the drier parts closer to the UTH. I can only think of that or getting a bigger tank.

Gotcha was just curious i doubt ill.ever find e's or any exotic species but was just curious. I did hear something that some times petco or pet smart get a few that sneak in but it's highly unlikely.

E's can often be found at the chain pet store petco. You have to look everytime they get a NEW shipment but.... E's are a whole different ball game than PP's. I had a chance to choose any exotic i want but turned it down (personal preff i know). However, i said that simply to make my point... There is a long time crabber on here who just excavated her tank to dig up 11 crabs all dead. She is pretty sure it had something to do with her E's. On the other hand there are plenty of people on here who's never had an aggression problem with E's. Though they are known for violence. They need deeper sub and maybe hotter temp? Anyways I'm not here saying don't do it, I'm here saying what to be aware of! Happy crabbing :)

Yeah that's one reason why I'm considering not getting them I've never seem then at petco though its always pps. Not sure when shipments come in. But i did hear they are violent and like to dig up and kill molters so im going to avoid them unless i got a tank specifically for only then and keep them separate. Straws are the cutest though but they seem so frail and i would not even wanna try to get them I'll leave that to experienced crabbers.

It's awful i love my crabs i wouldn't want to put them in harms way. The e's are cute but they seem to be sinister at the same time so I'll pass for now.
