MI, OH, IL, IN Adopters
Located in Cincinnati, Ohio and willing to drive up to 1-2 hours depending on circumstances. I have a 101 gallon crabitat with many different species and I currently have some room for adoptions. I've been keeping crabs since the beginning of 2008 with great success.

Howdy folks! My name is Josie, and after a bit over a year of crabbing I am looking to add more crababies into our forever home.
I live in Akron, Ohio close to Cuyahoga Falls. I am willing to drive an hour away to adopt crabs, maybe a bit further away depending on the time of day. I can not drive during night-time due to my bad vision, so everything will have to be done before the sun starts to set.
I bought my current crababies in the months of Feb and two more in June of 2015, and have had many successful molts and a lot of growing and research done. I did have one loss last year with my only Ecuadorian who did not survive his first molt after being home for a week, but the 7 others I have now are all healthy and thriving. As I have a tank full of and set for Purple Pinchers, I am looking to adopt more of these. Based on the size-to-gallon chart from HCA, I can more than comfortably fit another 7-10 crabs of similar sizes into our crabitat, including growth spurts. I currently have 2 medium, 4 Small, and 1 teeny in a 65 gallon tank. I would love to add more crababies to our home, but want to adopt rather than buy from a store.
The tank itself is 36''x18''x25'' and sits in a quiet area of the house that gets a lot of indirect sunlight during the day. I use a mix of playsand and EcoEarth coconut fiber as my substrate, and have a small natural moss pit for the crabs to play in. The substrate goes from 13'' deep on one end to 8'' deep at the other. I also have three pools of water, roughly 3'' deep lined with plastic canvas, with the two small ones filled with pure fresh water and the larger one with brackish & lightly slime-coated water. I buy unmodified filtered water (Reiter brand) then treat it myself with the appropriate dechlorinators and such. The diet is largely varied day-to-day, but has often contained a mix of various natural nuts and grains, boiled eggs/shells, shrimp, fruits/veggies off of the safe list from HCA, and Repashy's Beach Buffet hermit crab food. Food is changed daily, water every 2-3 days depending on how dirty it is. I do not have any heating lamps/pads, as I have not needed any yet. The tank stays around 78 degrees F with 80% humidity near the pools, and goes down to around 72 degrees F with 73% humidity at the other end.
I love to spoil my crababies with a lot of climbing objects and new toys, usually every other month. There are lots of baskets, plants, and rope to climb as well as large trees, plants, and caves (both made by me and by the crabs themselves) to hide in. I've found that they love bright flowers, plastic toys, and easily-knocked-over decor, so I try to include that as much as I can. Each addition is thoroughly inspected for possible chipping, if they are too lightweight to climb on, and so on before I even buy them, and the plastic ones I make sure they are made from a solid piece and not painted. I currently have about 20-25 extra shells ranging from 1''- 4'', if anyone desires I can take a more accurate inventory to be sure. My new shells are all bought from MyGANN on Amazon, as I've had nothing but amazing quality from her. I only offer natural shells, usually mother of pearl, and boil them appropriately every week.
For the first month any new crababies would spend with me, they would be in a 10 or 20 gal tank, depending on size and quantity. Since I have these two extra tanks available I can take in new crabs from two different homes at once, but from no more than that until after quarantine. I have extra decor, food/pool dishes, sand, and EcoEarth available to set up these tanks at any time, as well as an extra fund for if new shells need to be bought.
Photos! This one was taken today, as a quick reference to what the crabitat currently looks like.
And here is a link to an album of what the tank looked like in March this year, mostly unchanged besides a new basket and food dish.

Here are photos as an example of how I've set up the 20gal and the 10gal ISO tanks, respectively, in the past.
If you have any questions or would like to open a discussion about me adopting your crabs, feel free to PM me on here or email me at ResinMae[at]gmail[dot]com. Thank you!

Re: MI, OH, IL, IN Adopted
Hi! I live in central Ohio, I'll adopt hermit crabs of any size or species. I'm willing to drive up to 5 hours away, maybe more depending on the situation, and am willing to pay for shipping of crabs, I've been crabbing for 3 years, I have 17 medium purple pinchers, 4 small purple pinchers, and 3 Ecuadoreans in a planted plywood enclosure that's 4 feet by 3 feet by 6 feet tall. My substrate is a mix of sand and coco fiber that's a foot deep, I have 20 gallon container of salt water with a sand bottom, live rock and some recently added mangrove seeds and a 8 gallon fresh water pond in the enclosure. I have multiple objects and plants in the tank for climbing. I am constantly adding new things into the enclose as I think of them. And a humidifier set up on a timer to always keep the humidity up. I feed my crabs a variety of fresh fruits, veggies, and seeds. Feel free to PM me if u have any questions,I will check for messages weekly so u may have to wait a few days for me to respond. Or feel free to text me at (NUMBER REMOVED). Thanks!

I am in Chicago and would be happy to adopt crabs. I don't have a car, but I'm willing to leave my neighborhood if I can get to you via public transit.
I currently have 5 crabs (3 pps and 2 es) in a 55 gallon tank so I have room for a couple more but not a ton.

Re: MI, OH, IL, IN Adopters
If anyone is looking for someone to adopt their hermit crabs, I would be happy to. I have a 10 gallon enclosure and a 5 gallon ISO. I am hoping to upgrade to a 20 gallon soon. I live in Columbus, Ohio, but I would really rather not travel too far. Recently my hermit crabs just suddenly passed away. The one (Sissy) clearly misses the beach and never adjusted well to the tank life. However, Bubba (the other one) was perfectly happy up until a few days ago. He was the most social crab I've ever known, always wanting to hang out with you and loved his home (he was the king of the tank so to speak). We are not sure why, but Bubba died in my arms last night, and Sissy died last week. I loved them both so much and would love to rescue an unwanted crab or crabs rather than go to the pet store again. It would really honor their legacy, and I have a heart for animals in need of a home. I have OCD, so I will do just about anything to make them happy and spent hundreds of dollars on my now deceased babies when they were alive. Private message me if you have a crab or crabs in need of a home. Looking to take in two or three babies. I am still grieving, but must keep moving on. Don't mistake and think I have not cried and cried. I simply want to do right by them and continue helping other crabs. Ideal would be to take the new crabs in closer to August or September, but if someone needs help sooner, I am more than happy to help out.

ISO hermit crabs for my tanks in Indiana (IN). I am new to crabs but have a 40 and a 20 gallon tank I am in the process of setting up. I have fresh and salt water bowls, and will have a deeper bowl available in case I find a strawberry. I live down on the IN KY, IL border and can drive an hour (more in certain circumstances) and can have them shipped weather and circumstances permitting. While I am new to crabs I did have them as a child, have researched many hours worth of info, and have managed to keep my turtle (still thriving) for the last 28 years and two cats to just under and over 20 years so I know about long-term care. Since my tanks are brand new and being set up I will have plenty of room for additions and a smaller quarantine cage available. I also have some room for two or three complete setups if you are looking to place your entire crew. If you need more info you can email me at cmaks.spaniels [at] gmail [dot]com.

Re: MI, OH, IL, IN Adopters
Hi.
I'm 30 and I have a 55 gallon crabitat set up. I have another habitat as well with 7 successful molters. I've adopted crabs in need, and have the space for more.
All of my crabs eat a well balanced, nutritional diet with plenty of supplements. Their temperature and humidity is kept optimal all of the time. They take frequent baths. They're all friendly and are used to being handled.
I am in Bolingbrook, but can arrange to travel within 30 miles or so should a crab need a new home.
I can be reached at raych.gunther at gmail.com
