is it safe to feed a dead hermit crab's exoskeleton to the other hermit crabs?

I'm not sure. I probably wouldn't because who knows why the hermie died in the first place. Second be sure that there aren't any bugs on the deceased hermie.

If it went naked, was it after a molt? Are you talking about the crabs actual exo, or feeding the crabs the dead crab?

Shed exo is fine to give to other crabs. In fact I have a small yogurt container in which I save extra exo bits (usually the harder to eat legtips).
I save them for the future day in which someone gets his exo stolen and needs a substitute.
Alternately, you could grind up leftover tips and things and sprinkle them on the food.

do you think that if you give a strawberry hemrit crab that had its exo stolen a purple picnher's exoskeleton that it'll be a different color?That would be really odd.just a question that should be answered.
