I've had crabs for about 2 months now *pokes siggy*, but I recently joined this site. Does anyone have advice for keeping crabs entertained?

Hi and Welcome.

I would give them plenty of hidies, climbing things and a good size salt water pool to swim in... give them plenty of fresh foods and they should be pretty entertained. :)

OH, mine like their hemp moss shelf. ..

Also, what type of greenery would you reccomend to put in the crabitat?

Plastic plant are good (ones with no metal). Most live plants that are ok (see Safe Plant List under Crab Care FAQ) to put in the tank the crabs will just trash so most of us use plastic and moss... you can get moss from the reptile section in the pet store or you can use craft moss (not spanish moss) as long as it has not been painted... just soak it in saltwater and zap it in the microwave for a minute.

There are tons of ideas for second levels ... look to the right under Crab Care FAQ and find Second Level and you'll find instructions and pictures.

EDIT: My shelf was crocheted (I think may be knitted) out of hemp... you can get that at JoAnne's fabric store. Hemp hold up real well to the humidity and doesn't mold like yarn or cotton would. Soak it in salt water before putting it in the tank. I bought mine off of ebay. It was called Hemp Moss Shelf. It's handmade by a lady who owns crabs. It was $15 and came with moss & suction cups.

You could also get one of those green almost net looking things made for reptiles at the petstore. Just make sure you have some sort of ladder for them to be able to climb up and down.

You can see my tank here:

Ok! I heard a shower caddy works well for a second level.

they do a lot of people use them... I think some of the pics in the "Second Level" section are ones using a shower caddy... not for sure though. You'll just need something to cover the holes on the bottom so your sand/substrate doesn't fall out or hermits legs get stuck.

I just recently made one. It's your basic plastic 4x8 storage box covered in coconut fiber/coconut mulch and plastic vines with suctioin cups on the side.

I don't know. One of my little crabs is molting, and I don't know where he's burried, so I don't want to disturb him by putting this in quite yet.
