I don't know what I am doing wrong this is the second crab in 3 months I have lost during molting. The first one I didn't know what it was doing and after several weeks he died. Then Kyle went under maybe 2 weeks ago and I figured he was doing a molt found a front claw laying on top of EE.The past few days I noticed a large amount of knats in the tank i just had a feeling something was wrong and i moved the large shell tonite that Kyle had buried under and there was alot of knats under there and he was dead in his shell and the shell was packed tight with EE and his parts were all around him, so I took him out and a area of EE that he had been straightened the tank up and notice under the food dish very very tiny bugs they look almost clear. I am at a loss here can someone help. I have had these 4 crabs for a year I havent added any new crabs and i was told that EE was the best thing to use I had been using aquarium rock.
I was waiting for Kyle to surface I was going to do a split sand and EE tank and I had bought a heater to put under the sand. Could my tank have been to cold I live in Illinois so it is cold here. Although they did dfine last year they don't hardly come out anymore or climb.Am I a bad crabbie mama?

I think it's the bugs that are causing the trouble Mommabird. I'll try and find Jedediahs thread on bugs for you so you can get an idea on what the bugs are and how to fix the problem
How long have you had the eco-earth in your tank for?
Also,your humidity level's a bit high,it should be around 75-80%.
Edit: Here's Jedediah's thread on bugs below. It sounds like you have predatory mites,so following Jed's tips should hopefully help get rid of them.
