Dug Under 3 1/2 weeks...

Hi Guys,

My 2 small PPs have been underground for 3 1/2 weeks. Is this normal for them? History: I had them 2 weeks in KK then as soon as I put them in the 20gal they dug down and haven't been seen since. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

No bad smell. If they are way at the bottom and they did die are you sure I'd be able to smell it?

I'm just getting worried. I was under the impression they'd be down for 1-2 weeks. Maybe I'm way off.

I think I'd feel better if I knew that other people's crabs had taken this long as well on their first molt.

I want my little crabbies back!!

I wouldn't worry. I had both my pps dig under for several months, but when they came back up, I saw they had molted and they were perfectly fine. They may be molting like mine, in which case you should leave them alone. Or if not, maybe they are just not used to their new habitat, and are trying to get used to it. Either way, hermit crabs, so I have heard, sometimes stay down for EXTREMELY long periods of time, so I wouldn't worry. They are probably fine. If you do happen to smell something, well, I'm going to let the veteran members answer that for you

My smalls took almost 2 1/2 months to molt! so if they are molting they still got abit of time left. just try not to worry or dig them up because if you do it may cause too much stress on them and it may kill them.

my small just came up last night after being under for 1 and a half months no need to worry because even though they are small they still have been molting for quite a while in the wild.

I have two smalls that I've only seen once since getting them in December It's totally normal to be gone that long They might be destressing as well as molting, and since it's their first molt in their new home (and after all the crap they went through to get there) they will need some alone time before and after My crab B just came up from molting Jan 5th-March 24th!

Yeah- you're right. That last month is a doozy. Man oh man.
Good luck with your pregnancy. It's a wild ride!

I've got a boy and a girl now, so I've caught my limit. If I add any more, some of the members here might get on my case about overcrowding my 2 bedroom condo!!!
