Do you have a heater on the tank? If it gets too cold the crab coul die.

Try insulating your UTH. If I remember correctly, your UTH is on top of your bin? Try moving it to the back and placing insulation board over it to push heat into the tank. Or an emergency blanket would work or aluminum foil. If that doesn't work, you may need to add another UTH for the winter.

Yeah i have been running into the same problem with this new apartment and with winter approaching. I taped some tin foil to pieces of cardboard and put them on the sides of the tank. And with all my UTHs on the back i stuck a large tin foil/card board piece over that. I also bought a moon bulb to turn on whenever the tank needed an extra boost. Also make sure your gauges are correct, that was also part of my problem.

Re: the heat in my tank is dropping
I had the same problem with temps outside dropping... First, I had some Styrofoam from one of those cheap Styrofoam coolers. I used the lid, which actually fit perfectly over my UTH. Wrapped a piece of cardboard in foil and fit it onto the heater side of the Styrofoam and taped it all on with duct tape. It's on the left side against the wall so doesn't look bad. Worked really well. About a month later temps were getting too cool again, so I bought a large Flukers heat pad and this cork tree background from Zoo med (which is EXTREMELY cool by the way). I put the jumbo heater inside the tank with the cork background covering it. And the crabs can actually climb the cork background, looks just like tree bark!

I use a uth with foil and cardboard and it helps so much. I stretch the foil all the way down to the bottom of the tank to help hold heat in the substrate.

Re: the heat in my tank is dropping
Whoa that seems like a lot to me! I only needed 1 10-20g heater for my first 10gal tank. Where do you place your heaters?teardrop wrote:I have three 10-20g uth zoomed and one zoomed hermit crab uth and aluminum foil to keep my temps up at 80 and I only have a 10g tank lol

Re: the heat in my tank is dropping
I'm still having issues with my tank dropping to 70F in my 55g.
I have a 40-60g Under the tank heater on the side, the sides, on lid, and the back all wrapped in tin foil and Styrofoam. The humidity is, like 91% but the temp is low.
Should I put some kind of heat lamp on? Would it be okay sitting on the glass lid?

Hermit-Yote it might be best to check your thermometer for accuracy first? And how do you have it insulated, foil on the tank and then styrofoam around the foil?
