I totally have been debating on down grading my pools, thinking that I never see crabs in there so why bother with all that hassle?
Over the past week I have officially seen a medium viola and my jumbo indo both in the pool. I feel like maybe they knew! Use it or loose it!! The pools have been set up for almost 2 months, so maybe they are more comfortable with the idea. Either way I guess I'm keeping the pools....

My crabs come up from under covered in sand. I know they submerged when i see a squeaky clean shell. There will usually also be sub at the bottom of a pool. I will never not have huge pools, and the water must somehow move.

YYWW mine too. They're Es and tunnel all the time. I see evidence of their bathing in the morning, sub in the bottom of the pools and little gifts left on the ramp. Sometimes my shell swapping E leaves me a shell at the bottom of the pool (whichever one he decided to chuck for a new one)

The underwater shell swap has not happened for me yet. How cute! Do you leave your shells loose in the tank? Mine are very contained. Would be very cool to see though!
I think crabs like to be clean. I saw a piece of poop get stuck to a PP once as he was running the hades away from me and he stopped, flung off the poo, and continued running. His primpy terror was ADORRRRBS!

So far only my large, extra large and Jumbos like to swim. These are all PPs. I haven't caught any of my Es swimming yet.ImageImageImage

My PPs wade through my bowls (which are deep enough to cover them) in the middle of the night when they think no one is watching. Sometimes there will be 4 or 5 crabs crammed in there at the same time. Only evidence come morning is a huge amount of poop sitting on the bottom. During the day they just hang off the side and dip their legs or claws.

The filters came yesterday and I have the gravel and second 2.5 for the fw in place. I have to wash out the gravel so I can get it all up and going. Looking forward to getting it cycled. They can always come visit for a nice dip in the pool. :)

Ohh yay! I bet you're ready for cycles pools! Water changes will be so much easier I can hear them already trying to escape to enjoy some nice deep pools!

They were contained in a plastic bin thing at the time. Don't ask me how he managed to throw the shells out and all over the sub. Now I have them spread out on my 2nd level "grass mat"

Pool submerging question...

Walmart or pet store. You need air pump, tubing and air stones. I spent less than $10 on the whole set up at Walmart. I got the smallest tank size pump (which also happened to be the cheapest at $6)

ETA: I also bought a splitter thing so I could use 1 pump for 2 pools.

Draco has never been a fan of swimming, I suspect it's from me bathing him years back that left a bad impression.
But never the less, I really want to do big pools and monitor the levels to see if I can change his mind. Kelly, seeing your XL's and jumbos swimming gives me hope!

I had deep kk pools with air stones in my 20 but no one ever submerged except one, and then only one time.

I used the same set up in my new 55, except used a stronger air pump, and used bird ladders with plastic canvas, and the big crab was co.allegedly submerged in both pools on and off for hours, and Festus was submerged for 3 solid hours last night. Even Mini Me took a swim! I think more bubbles made all the difference.
