Adding Substrate?

Post by Kennyk3n » Thu Mar 19, 2015 11:50 am

I've had my tank set up for about 6 weeks now and the substrate is about 5 inches deep. i know it should be six or more. I have at least 2 crabs that are burrowed right now either destressing or molting , or maybe just chilling and i'm not seeing them when they come up at night. Would it be ok to take everything out and add a few more inches of substrate while those crabs are still buried? I feel like the minute one crab comes up another goes down and i'm not sure when i'll ever get the chance to add more substrate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can add substrate while crabs are down. Be careful when adding it and don't push it down too much as not to ruin any caves the crabs might have down there.
Moving things around on the surface if usually fine as long as you're not doing all the time and stressing crabs that are above ground :)
