Just saw the YouTube video of the completed 'tat...very cool! I'm curious as to how many gallons each of your pools are. My husband is contemplating building something similar and I'm trying to get a feel for how big the pools should be.

Watched the video last night, and thought it was pretty cool. However, having been lectured here about frequent (daily) changing of all water, I have to ask how you manage that on this rig?

Re: 500 gallon Crabitat
Edis' tank has pretty large pools (as you saw in the video) and I believed they are cycled/filtered. With deep pools you do not have to change the water daily. Mine are 2.5 quarts a piece and I go every 4 days to a week depending on how much junk the crabs have dragged in. Since I have bubblers, the water doesn't get stagnant as quickly.Arlo-Duck-Tony wrote:Watched the video last night, and thought it was pretty cool. I have this idea in my head for like 2-4 gallon pools and some sort of drain system to make it easy to empty them. Like drain it from the bottom, rinse and refill. Thankfully my husband is handy and indulges my weird animal ideas

Whether daily, or once/twice per week, the water has to be changed out at some point. I'd be interested in how that's done on these larger pools!soilentgringa wrote:Edis' tank has pretty large pools (as you saw in the video) and I believed they are cycled/filtered. Re: 500 gallon Crabitat
If they're cycled (like you would do for a fish tank), the water never has to be completely changed. Just partial water changes - weekly or monthly depending on your tank and preference. More info on cycling an aquarium.Arlo-Duck-Tony wrote: Whether daily, or once/twice per week, the water has to be changed out at some point. Re: 500 gallon Crabitat
Mine are 2.5 gal cycled and filtered. I change them when they need it but my usual water tests don't show a NEED for a change for about 2 weeks. I do a 20% partial change on Mondays.
