Cocoa liners

Post by courtbri » Fri May 22, 2015 3:40 pm

Has anyone used those cocoa liners that people use in their hanging baskets for their crabitat? I don't know if they are safe but man they'd be nice for climbing.

I just bought seven of them to use! :) Two different sizes. I'm not sure how I'm going to use them just yet, but they were super cheap, so I grabbed first & figured I'd decide later. I'm pretty sure I've seen others using them on here.

As long as they're just made of coconut fiber, they're safe. :)

There was talk in the past about what they were glued together with and if it was safe for hermits. If they're listed for organic gardening for sure they would be okay, but since they're imported I would think there's a really good chance they've been treated with pesticides.

Ick. What do they use to glue together the cocofiber liners sold specifically for hermit crabs? Do you know? I never thought much about it. (though I haven't used them for a long time anyway)

Pretty sure the pet liners are just steam pressed.

I have tried to use these before but my crabs didn't seem to like them. They went out of there way to get away from it. I bought it because it was the cone shape so I thought it would make a great teepee. Try maybe it's made differently from mine.

I have bought and used these, and i'm not entirely sure how they're made or whats in them. They don't feel the same as the safe coco liner i've bought seperately. But, i did take it out of my hide shown here after a while. I don't think they really liked it. I salt water treated it. Threw it in the microwave a bunch when it was wet, did everything i could do to try and clean it. It just smells a bit off, and did from the start, All of them I bought did. I can't say whether or not they use the hide a bunch without it in there as I haven't checked it since I took the coco pot liner just last week.
