Too warm?

Post by Will13 » Tue May 26, 2015 1:01 pm

is it possible that 81% and 81 degrees is too warm? Our crabs just spend almost all their time down deep. I haven't seen one crab in probably 3 months at least. Occasional pop ups but that's it.

Were they new? They could be molting, which is why they've been down for so long.

81 is right in the magic zone where most people see the most activity. Mine are super active even up in to the 90's in the summer, so heat generally doesn't affect them adversely.

Have you calibrated your hygrometer yet? If it's not reading right and it's too dry, that will also cause them to stay underground where it's more moist: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... hp?t=92540

Not new. The oldest is coming up on 1 year. Couple molts on the older crabs already.
