Homemade Clay Decorations?

Post by DancingCorgi » Mon Jun 15, 2015 5:30 pm

This is kind of a weird question, but I was wanting to get some new toys/climbing structures for my hermies and I thought, what if I made some out of clay? It's Sculpey that gets baked to hardness in the oven. Would this be safe for hermit crabs to play on?

It needs to be a pure clay from a known safe source, since they will try to eat it. Something like Montmorillonite or Bentonite clay would work, or anything else that is human or animal safe.

I used to work with polymer clay and I would be careful. I remember rules about not allow young children/babies with it because they'd put it in their mouths. I know for sure that the dust is bad for anyone so the crabs picking at it and eating it may not be a good idea.
