Calibration Question

Post by Carahj3 » Wed Nov 11, 2015 10:42 pm

I posted this earlier as a response to one of my posts, but I figured this would generate more answers I calibrated my hygrometer, and it is 5 low. I am waiting on my mother, who is a jeweler, to deliver the jewelers screwdriver to fix that issue. I can't find anything else small enough to do it. with that being said, I've been keeping it steady at what my hygrometer says is 86% humidity and 79 temp, but should I assume the temp is 5 low as well as the humidity? I felt as though that was a decently safe area either way until I can fix the hygrometer for sure.

No. No need to worry about adjusting for the temperature reading. They are independent gauges and the hygrometer is the only gauge that needs calibrating. The temp is accurate as it appears.

thank you! maybe I'll boost up the heat a bit then. it's not quite where I want it for my Es. I currently have a 100 w blue bulb.
and any humidity tips? I cover the tank with Saran Wrap and a towel, but I worry about the Saran Wrap melting by the light fixture if I put it too close??? does anyone who uses a bubbler or alternate source of humidity have any reviews or things that have worked well?

The thermometer can be off as well, but since it's not made for food, there is no easy way to calibrate it. (Doing so requires boiling and/or ice water.) Best way is to check it against another thermometer to see if both are reading the same. There will be one built-in to your homes thermostat if nothing else. (But it has to be checked next to it, since other locations can be cooler or warmer.) When my dual digital unit finally failed, both read spectacularly off!
