Building Crabtopia is taking forever!
Hey all.
I have been working on gathering supplies for my forty gallon breeder set up and it keeps getting farther from done because I keep getting new ideas! UGH.
Namely, ideas for how to add height and climbing space while also having sub deep enough for large crabs. Enter a wonderful deal I found online at petsmart.
My phone got smashed during an impromptu softball game in the yard when my sister hit the ball into my pocket, ouch, so here is a horrible picture of what Crabtopia currently looks like:
It's a 36x18x18 Exo terra that I was able to remove the glass bottom from (in one piece I might add! It took HOURS) on top of the forty. It will be a sight to behold when I finish it. Any advice/encouragement anyone wants to give me would be appreciated so that I don't completely lose heart!

You can do it.
You will probably be done by next week.

Re: Building Crabtopia is taking forever!
Do you have any sketches of your plans with it? I'd love to see the ideas you're getting!
Or if you don't, I'd highly suggest sketching some things out, it might help sort out all those ideas bouncing around

Sketches really helped when I first started, definitely a good idea if you haven't.

Re: Building Crabtopia is taking forever!
Hey all! I know some of you were wanting to see how this turns out so I wanted to let you know that things are FINALLY moving along. I will probably be able to have my babies moved within 2 (ish) months! Which still seems long but I can only work as fast as the funds come. my niece surprised me with two Ecuadorians!!!!!! They are impossible to get in my south central KY area so she brought me back two from Tennessee on her first wedding anniversary trip. Also, I should have a phone tomorrow so that will make updating pics easy!
Be back with pictures soon!

Can anyone point me to a thread that has a bunch of crabitat pics? I want some inspiration but I can't find one that I know I've seen before that had tons of pics!

Re: Building Crabtopia is taking forever!
BIG UPDATE! PIC HEAVY!
I'm on the home stretch! I think! Something always seems to get in the way!
Last essential elements needs are;
This stand; the one I am getting is the one rated for 65 gallon tanks (same footprint as 40 breeder so plenty sturdy)
And heaters
Adding two ultra therms big one on top, smaller on the bottom.
And sub and amendments and they can MOVE!
Updates on what I've done:
I will have two platform levels with almost the same footprint as ten gallons. The piece of cork you see will the lower one. The shelf in the topper is the second. The white bowl is the mock freshwater pool and the clear kk is the mock salt (will have bubbler). False bottom is almost done-just need to cut drain pipe to length. Will probably be removing most if not all of the Exo terra background. Any questions just ask! Any ideas or concerns feel free to leave them!
On my eventually list:

Re: Building Crabtopia is taking forever!
OKAY FOR REAL THIS TIME! I have the stand! I need two more bags of sand and to order the heater and cut the plexiglass pieces for the lid and we are ready to move! I want more wood and plants and I need a new air pump and I want a humidifier- BUT those things can wait! I am beyond happy to be so close to the end! This has taken over ten months and it's finally getting done!
*bonus is that it is a double stand rated to hold two 65 gallon aquariums so I may eventually be able to put a tank down there for a few goldfish since I have wanted them forever!
