Hanging Baskets in Tank
Hanging Baskets in Tank
I've long used suction cups to hold up baskets that I've used as shell shops and moss pits, but without fail they fall down after a couple of weeks, making tank maintenance rather grueling in my opinion. I feel like there must be a better solution, but I don't really want to use tape (which they'd probably eat) or chemical adhesives (epoxy/superglue are definitely toxic; also, it would be nice to allow rearranging). Anyone have a suggestion for me?
Re: Hanging Baskets in Tank
What kind of suction cups are you using? The cheapo ones never hold up, but the nicer power lock ones do better. Don't use them on the side of the glass your UTH is up against (if you have one) since the heat ruins them over time. You can rub a little bit of petroleum jelly on them to help them stick, make sure the glass is really clean, and prop up the baskets with something. I use 6" pieces of cholla under my moss pits and shell shops (2 each) and even if the suction cups let go (which they rarely do), they're still supported and don't go crashing down.
I wouldn't suggest tape, and the only safe adhesive I can think of without needing a cure time is hot glue, and it doesn't hold up well in humidity. Plus, like you said, other options are much more permanent. I would try the suction cups again.

I've used the power-locking kind, but the petroleum jelly thing is new to me and I hadn't thought to prop them up with wood. I'll have to give that a try when I rearrange the tank next, thank you!
