Crabitat Advice
So I have this 40-50 gallon tank for my 3 crabs, and I feel like there is so much wasted/boring space. The temperature (Fahrenheit) and humidity are both around 70-80 always, but it just seems so boring in there. Any advice on what I could do? (Fake plants safe? How to make an upper level, etc.) Basically, any advice to improve the lives of my little crabbies would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check out the Pictures section for really good ideas on making the most of the room you have to enrich the crabs' lives. I have a smaller tank than yours (29g) and more crabs (4) but, believe me, they're never bored. They currently have fish netting for climbing/napping, plastic and cloth plants/vines for climbing, a Repti Hammock, a deep moss pit, a small branch wrapped in fish net to access second levels, two shell shops (one raised, one suspended) and nice deep pools for bathing. Remember that PPs are also known as tree crabs so they love things to climb!

Just let your imagination go and visit your local dollar and thrift stores to find plants, vines, plastic and ceramic items to use as hides, moss pits and shell shops. Suction cup soap dishes and shower caddies (Walmart) make terrific second-level shell shops and moss pits. Fish net is my go-to item as it can be hung around the walls, draped over branches, twisted into ropes, etc. -- you can find bagged fish net at Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann for about $6 for a 3'x5' piece. Mopani and grapewood is sold at Petco/PetSmart in the Reptile section for $6 and up, depending on the size.
Last but not least, the warmer and more humid the crabitat is, the more active the crabs will be. An 80/80 level is a good benchmark for PPs but higher is fine, too.
