I don't think you need a brick..Lol! I also just have a slight opening where the lid doesn't fit the tank tightly and its enough air flow and keeps my temps and humidity in check. You might like silk plants better from a dollar tree, crabs sometimes tend to eat the plastic. Just don't get ones that have things like pollen, small looking parts that can come off..crabs might eat them to.. fish tank decorations can be used to.
Mine eat the silk ones too. *head shake* It is an ongoing point of contention between me and the crabs. They won't stop knocking the moss pit down or eating my fake plants. Destructive little boogers!

I'm fairly new here, but I've found that keeping the gauge that high gives some misleading readings. I prefer a gauge down near the substrate, where the crabs spend the majority of their time. It's less humid near the lid and temperature varies significantly depending on the ambient room temp. You could get a digital hygrometer/thermometer to live down low and use the existing one where you placed the velcro for it. It will give you an idea of the different zones you'll have.

Iv noticed that when i have more plants and things in the tank that my crabs tend to come out more. I think it feels like they have more cover and arnt so exposed.
