Just one more thing sold "for hermit crabs" that is a waste of money. :|

Take a look at the "Shells" forum here for the kinds of shells that they WILL use. Basically, once ours had access to polished or semi-polished turbo shells, they have never used anything else; turbos seem to have the most preferred opening for PP's, and they like them polished or semi-polished, since it makes the shell a bit lighter.

Welcome to the wonderful world of a million-and-one-things-hermit-crabs-need-that-the-stores-will-neglect-to-tell-you-about! Or tell you wrongly about. . .:
It's all great advice!!! And I had a feeling about the shells, plus he'll need some bigger ones to check out. That tiny shell is just decorImageit was one I picked up at the beach last year back before I even had my first crabbie.
I am learning & soaking up all this new info!! Loving it haha

That's fine to use shells for decor, and they will sometimes "snack" on some kinds of shells, too, as a calcium supplement. But yeah, you'll need some shells with opening sizes near the opening size of what he has on, now. Bear in mind that the size of the opening does not directly correlate to the overall size of the shell itself. Check out the Shells forum for info on measuring openings and places to get good shells. Best wishes!
