Sounds like molting to me. It would be so cool if you got to watch the whole process.
Yes, hermies don't move while molting and stay very still. They use humidity in the air to swell their bodies so they can crack their current exoskeleton and their new one will harden over time.
Just be sure not to touch him and hopefully all goes well.

Every single one of us has done something they thought was right and now wished we hadn't, please don't be hard on yourself!
I disturbed a molter once, dug the poor guy up (hadn't seen him in 6 weeks and thought he was dead-since he was a small I thought it shouldn't take so long to molt-what did I know). He ended up being fine.
I hope it's the same with your little guy.

I can't thank you enough, once again, for your kind words.
Today was interesting... tonight, about half an hour after i turned off both of the lights in my tank... I saw hermie moving (the little guy that we've been talking about in this thread.) What does this mean? He's been climbing the sides of the tank, trying to get away, almost.
