Thus far I have only seen them throw shells in the new pools... I need to set up a go-pro or something so see if they are using it.

Go-pro, great idea, lol. We have an iphone stop-motion app, I wonder if we could set that up to take a photo every 5 minutes all night? Only it's so dark, we probably wouldn't see anything!

Right, and if it set off a flash every five minutes, that would be stressful to them, for sure.

One way to know if crabs are approaching a fixture during the night is to smooth the substrate around it before you go to bed. That won't tell you if they are literally "using" your comb-ladders, but if you also see bits of substrate on the ladders and in the pools, then you can be pretty sure they are. Also, if there are shells IN the pools, they probably didn't "throw" them in there.

No doubt! And anyway all you'd see in the picture is the flash reflecting off the glass, lol. My guys must be lightweights because I can rarely make out tracks in the sub. However, I do see tracks in food like peanut butter or tahini. And of course sand in the pools is a surefire tell. :)

Ha! Yes, I know they can't throw. I like to imagine them being mischievous.

Right, I just meant that's another sign that somebody was in the pool. :)

I just saw Sig in the pool and he got out just fine without the use of the comb. I am going to leave them to make myself feel better

As a side note I freaking love this banana. It makes me think of "Arrested Development."

So I planted some organic fancy-schmancy moss and it died. It is so dead and I finally had the heart to remove it from the tank.

I am ever working on my tat. I added another shell pit.

I am super excited because a coworkers grandchild is going to get to crabs and they asked me to set up the tat. Pictures to come!

Thanks @Kermie16 ! My coworker asked me what she needed to set up a tat and you would tell she was way in over her head. I volunteered to set it up for very shellfish (hehe) reasons. I love messing with tanks. I figure if I have it all set up and just tell her how to maintain it the crabs are more likely to be healthy.
