...of play sand and EE for 50 gallon tank? Getting ready to upgrade.

To get 12 inches in my 40B (36x18), I think I used 6-7 bags of play sand and 2 bricks of EE. Probably less because part of that was old substrate from another tank so I can't remember for sure how much was used then - plus some was probably lost during regular cleaning. I know I added 4-5 bags to whatever was from the old setup and for sure used 2 bricks of EE.

I really need to write this stuff down so I can be of better help with these sorts of questions...

One things for sure, it won't hurt to pick up extra because whatever you add will settle after a while and most likely need topping off again.

I used 3 bags of sand and 2 bricks EE in my 55 gallon - this gives me about 7-8 inches of substrate...
