Lava Rock Questions!

Post by mariilene » Fri Nov 28, 2014 2:06 pm

Hey there! My roommate found some lava rocks in her mother's attic and is bringing them to me. I did a search on HCA and saw they were safe for hermies. But they were in a salt water tank previously and I have no idea how long they were in the attic. What should I do to clean them up for my habitat? Thanks!!

Thanks so much!!! I'm thrilled to have something a bit different in there for them! :cloud9:

If you're looking for different sizes/textures (i.e., red basalt vs black), check out the aquarium decorations section at Petco: their lava rocks are nicely priced at $4 each. I've gotten several for both the crabs and my mice.

I was recently at home depot for playsand and saw a very huge bag of red lava rocks for 4 dollars, so if you're not picky about size/textures you can get plenty to stack.

That's awesome! Good to know. I lack creativity so I dot come up with anything unless it's put right in front of me, haha. Luckily "some lava rock" turned out to be a five gallon bucket full of misc. sizes! But my tank is only 10G... Hahahaha. If my roommates don't want it when I've picked my pieces, I may offer some on here for shipping only!
