HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Hi everyone,
its been a while since i have been on, but now i finally have enough money/ time to create a new tank!!! So since i move around fairly regularly (every 6 months- 1 year) i need to have a tote tank for easy moving. The crabs are currently in a 13 gall tote and i need to upgrade. im getting two clear 70 quart totes which would be about 35 galls combined. The game plan is to have one tote on top of the other. It would be one tote on the bottom then another tote turned upside down over it. I was going to attach the two with velcro from the outside- so theres going to be the wire part of the velcro on both totes and then the fuzzy part is going to attach both of them. That way i could take the top tote off so it would be easier to move it. The plan is to have a zoo met pad on the bottom tote for heating. For humidity im going to have two pools for salt and fresh water with a bubblier in each and live plants- Aloe barbadensis, Dracaena braunii, Cuban basil, cilantro, and spinach. Im thinking i could have a plant/heating lamp if need be. I am going to poke holes on the sides of the top tote for air circulation. There is going to be more to the decoration and various levels/climbing things so that the crabs make good use of the height but that will be worked out later. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I have never housed a hermit crab in a tote, so I could be wrong, but I thought you weren't supposed to put a heating mat on the bottom, I thought they where supposed to be on the sides. But maybe it is different for totes, hopefully someone more experienced with totes will jump in!

o im putting it on the side- just the bottom tote- since im using two

I think janehappy intends to apply the heater to the back side, just to the lower tote.
